THE QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED MOST — AND OUR ANSWERS

Both. DyeMansion is a full solution provider offering machines for automated post-processing of 3D-printed polymer parts — the Powershot line for cleaning and surfacing, the VX1 and Powerfuse S for vapor smoothing, and the DM60 incl. add ons for coloring — plus the consumables, software, installation and applications support that go with them. If you’re not ready to invest in your own equipment or want to start with a benchmark, DyeMansion’s On-Demand Finishing service lets you send parts to our hubs in Munich and Austin and have them cleaned, surfaced, or colored in our machines instead.

No. DyeMansion doesn’t manufacture 3D printers and doesn’t offer 3D printing itself. DyeMansion focuses entirely on what happens after printing: depowdering, surfacing, vapor smoothing, and coloring. You bring parts printed on your own (or a partner’s) SLS, MJF, SAF, or HSS printer, and DyeMansion’s machines or On-Demand Finishing service handle everything from there. If you are looking for a provider covering the printing step for you, DyeMansion has a global network of certified production partners, service bureaus owning 3D printers and DyeMansion post-processing equipment. Check the offering in your region here: https://dyemansion.com/partners/#Partner

DyeMansion’s portfolio is built primarily around powder-bed polymer 3D printing — most commonly SLS, MJF or SAF — with support for FDM/FFF and select resin (SLA/DLP/CDLP) materials on specific processes such as VaporFuse Surfacing and DM60 coloring. Supported materials include PA11, PA12 (including glass- and carbon-filled variants), TPU, TPE, PP, and select high-performance polymers such as Ultem, from printer manufacturers including HP, EOS, Stratasys, Sinterit, Farsoon, Formlabs, and Markforged. Exact compatibility varies by machine and process, so check the relevant product page or ask DyeMansion’s applications team to confirm your specific printer and material combination. There is also a material compatibility list that we provide on request.

The Print-to-Product Workflow is DyeMansion’s three-step framework for turning raw 3D-printed parts into finished, production-ready products: Cleaning (removing residual powder in other words depowdering e.g. on Powershot C or X), Surfacing (a smoother, more durable finish via mechanical PolyShot Surfacing on Powershot X or Dual Performance or chemical VaporFuse Surfacing on the VX1 or Powerfuse S), and Coloring (Deep Dye Coloring on the DM60). You don’t have to use every step — the workflow lets you combine only the stages your material and application need. All steps of the workflow are integrated and can be connected seamlessly. DyeMansion is the only provider in 3D printing post-processing covering all those steps.

DyeMansion was founded in 2015 in Munich, Germany. It grew out of Trindo, a 3D-printing agency that the two co-founders Felix Ewald and Philipp Kramer started in 2013 in the first place. The main idea behind Trindo was offering 3D-printed smartphone cases. Back then, there were no industrial solutions for post processing of SLS parts on the market, so the two founders had to finish and dye their parts manually. When the color of the first 200 cases faded onto their customers’ pockets, solving the coloring problem became their new main business. The idea for DyeMansion was born and in February 2015 Trindo became DyeMansion. Since then the team has been working on the development of industrial coloring and later also the other post-processing steps for 3D printed plastics. Later that year the company presented the DM60 at Formnext as the world’s first automated coloring solution for 3D-printed plastics. DyeMansion today has more than 1,300 installed systems and over 600 customers worldwide, with offices in Munich, Germany and Austin, Texas.

You can send in sample parts for free benchmarking to our Benchmark & Application Centers in Munich (Germany) or Austin (TX, United States), or arrange a live, in-person benchmark at our facilities — either way, you see real results on your own geometries and materials before committing to a machine. Many regional resellers also have demo units you can see and test locally; ask your sales contact for the nearest option.

Depending on the material, color, and process combination, DyeMansion can provide biocompatibility data (ISO 10993), REACH and RoHS statements, food-contact declarations (EU Regulation 10/2011), PFAS-free statements, flammability/UL94 data, and automotive-specific documentation (IMDS, California Prop 65). Coverage is always tied to a specific material/process/color combination rather than applied blanket across every product — see the relevant machine’s page for what’s already documented, or contact our team for anything not yet listed.

DyeMansion offers the largest color database on the market for 3D-printed parts, alongside two different surface finishing technologies — mechanical (blasting) and chemical (vapor smoothing). On color, there are 17 standard colors for EOS PA 2200, HP 3D HR PA 12 W, HP 3D HR PA 12, EOS TPU 1301, Stratasys High Yield PA11, and Lubrizol ESTANE M95A, plus the full 170-color RAL Classic range, which was developed for EOS PA 2200. Other materials can be tested as well, though results may vary. If the material you use or the color you need isn’t listed, custom color matching to RAL, Pantone, or a physical sample is available across all compatible materials — request a quote from the DyeMansion team. The full color database is at go.dyemansion.com/DyeMansion-Color-Database-EN

One thing worth understanding is that Deep Dye Coloring is a chemical process rather than a coating: the dye penetrates the part itself instead of sitting on top of it the way paint or lacquer does, so there’s no layer that can chip or flake and no added wall thickness. The result always depends on the base material and on the finish applied beforehand, which makes color development more complex than simply painting a part — the same RAL reference can read differently on PA11 than on TPU, and differently again on a mechanically versus a chemically finished surface. That’s why DyeMansion validates colors per material and finish combination rather than promising them universally.

DyeMansion has developed two proprietary finishing processes. Which one you want usually comes down to a single question: do you need better aesthetics, or added functionality?

PolyShot Surfacing (PSS) is a mechanical blasting process, running on the Powershot X and Powershot DUAL Performance. It produces a semi-gloss, scratch-resistant aesthetic finish with soft haptics while preserving fine detail and sharp edges, on rigid plastics such as PA11 and PA12 — typical for applications like eyewear and prosthetics. It’s dry, fast, and scales to high volumes, which is why PolyShot Surfacing has become the industry standard for most powder-bed applications, and it’s the usual preparation step before coloring.

VaporFuse Surfacing (VFS) is a chemical smoothing process, running on the VX1 and Powerfuse S. A controlled solvent vapor melts and reflows the outermost layer, sealing surface porosity to produce a closed, injection-molding-like functional finish on rigid and semi-rigid plastics including PA11, PA12, TPU, and PP — typical for applications like pipes and midsoles. Choose it when a part has to do more than look good: fluid- or air-tight sealing, surfaces that must be easy to clean or disinfect, and internal channels or lattices that blasting media cannot reach.

The two finishes also take color differently, so if you’re combining a finish with Deep Dye Coloring, ask DyeMansion’s applications team to validate the full combination on your material.

DyeMansion is the only provider covering the full Print-to-Product Workflow — cleaning, surfacing, and coloring — as one connected ecosystem rather than single standalone machines, with more than 1,300 systems installed at over 600 customers worldwide and documented certification data across many material and finish combinations. Over the past ten years DyeMansion technology has become the standard for industrial polymer post-processing, with a particularly high market share in coloring and in blasting/depowdering. Behind that sits the largest partner network in the industry — both in service bureaus, where you can order DyeMansion finishes and colors without owning a machine, and in resellers, through whom you can buy the systems themselves. Whichever route suits you, the technology is accessible in most regions. DyeMansion also stands for PFAS-free solutions, maintaining PFAS-free statements across its core process lines — an increasingly decisive factor as EU and US regulations tighten. And DyeMansion’s specialized, cartridge and RFID-based consumable systems are built for industrial repeatability rather than manual, operator-dependent handling.
